Open Water Tuesday

FINAL 2 WEEKS OF OPEN WATER TUESDAY FOR THE SEASON!!!  17TH & 24TH APRIL 2012

Welcome to the weekly fun-filled-educational Open-Water-Tuesday morning swims launched on Tuesday 8th November 2011.

Open-Water-Tuesday are very targeted workouts that get you fully prepared for your goals, more swim comfortable, and “Be Race Ready” with skill-sharpening workouts before your next triathlon and/or OWS competition. Expect race simulation with emphasis on the needed essentials for open water: starts, dolphin entries and exits, navigation, drafting, positioning, buoy turns, change of speeds, finish set-ups, transitions, wetsuit removal…..

Best Start to the Day in Perth!

Our Goal: To help you make sense of open water swimming and sharpen your skills over the next several months. Each workout if different providing you with knowledge and skills to practice when swimming on your own. Coach Shelley will strive to provide the right balance between pushing each swimmer to be their best, giving subtle critiques to enhance your stoke, sharing a history of the sport and having a sense of humor.  It doesn’t matter if you are an elite swimmer or someone that is new to the sport; Coach Shelley will have you feeling excited about getting in the open water.

Your Outcomes: Expect to improve your swimming, get more comfortable, build specific swim muscular endurance and power, and learn the nuance skills for open water: navigation, sighting, pacelining, buoy turns, race starts and finishes, positioning, and most importantly attaining swim confidence.

An amazing experience … feeling more comfortable and confident!

“Each week I have felt more and more comfortable in the open water. I look forward to your sessions all week and feel greatly privileged to have the opportunity to train under your guidance. You are able to make me (a newbie) feel welcome, confident and comfortable participating in your clinics along side people who are training for ironman events. It is such amazing experience for me.” Asha Kaserer, Perth -Australia

*** This is not an absolute beginner workout. You must be able to swim 1km without stopping; approximately 2:30/100m speed; about 30min km speed or faster; 1-hour for a 70.3 swim; or under 2 hours for an Ironman swim. Wetsuits strongly recommended.

From panic to calm & relaxed state… I now enjoy OWS so much!!!
“Just wanted to say a huge thank you for the open water clinic on Saturday. I found it informative and very valuable. I used to panic in the water and really didn’t enjoy my swim during my triathlons. Now however just having the knowledge and knowing what to do if I got in an uncomfortable position made it very calming and allowed me to relax when swimming. Having the opportunity to practise was awesome. I enjoyed it so much that today I went for an early morning ocean swim with my husband and already a few of the other girls from my tri club who also attended have made times to train in the ocean. Thanks again and can’t wait for your tri training sessions.” Marie Wyche, Perth, Western Australia

From last (literally) to 3rd in my age category and 5th overall!!!
Shelley, with your help, it has created a new confidence in the water for me. I have since swum in the pool continuously for 1500m in 45min. That might not sound like much to a champ for me but that was huge, since last year I struggled to get to the end of the 50m. In the Australia Day triathlon in the Swan River, our “friends” (the jellyfish) were present but were so fun that I ended up getting 3rd in my age category for the swim (5th overall). I’m normally the last out of the swim (literally). I am super happy and have the half ironman in Busselton and would not have entered otherwise. Words really can’t express my gratitude to you. Thank you.” Maren Kate Scriven, Perth, Western Australia.
